Lactose Intolerance in infancy
It is not uncommon to see infants with Lactose Intolerance ,even among those who are on exclusive breast feeding:

 Common signs and symptoms include:
  • Diarrhea
  • Abdominal cramps (crying,restlessness)
  • Bloating
  • Gases(winds)
  • nappy rash especially around the anus

causes:
congenital,(rare)
secondary:
It can occur as a result of intestinal diseases, such as celiac disease, gastroenteritis

Treatment
Lactose free formula should be used in symptomatic lactose intolerance.
It can also be improved by dietary manipulation. If the quantity of lactose is increased slowly over time, lactobacilli are stimulated to grow in the colon. A greater number of lactobacilli allow the lactose to break down into monosaccharides.
